Sharing its border with the capital of the country the city of Gurgaon has grown rapidly from being a town in Haryana to becoming a very important commercial hub of the NCR region. The number of vehicles on the road is ever-increasing with the highest per capita income in the country. Traffic congestion is a regular sight and has become a menace for the people.

Apart from issues like slow speed of freight vehicles, fuel wastage and waiting time at toll plaza, transport congestion in Gurgaon has also lead to rising cases of Crime Against Women's. Lack of good roads combined with poor condition of service lanes, dug roads lead to lot of chaos and confusion every day which is further compounded with the advent of Monsoons.

After years of monitoring the facts of how to make sure the women safety we are still lacking in providing the safe environment. Damini, the name given to the girl who was brutally gang raped in a bus which reveals the sorry state of our city, which is ridden with Local Transport Problem. Although it is not restricted to one nation but the brutality of the incident shook up the whole world and even terming the NCR as a rape zone.

A lot of sexual abuse happen in public transport due to heavy rush and on the contrary due to lonely places and less crowded buses. There are many rape cases reported with the call centre cabs provided by the companies on contractual basis. Even in autos and buses due to absence of police and cameras a lot of sexual harassment takes place.  People do say generally that public transportation is safe but it all seems to be just an illusion with all these rising cases of women molestation and rape.

Authorities are often caught off guard as the city witnesses blocked drains and malfunctioning of traffic lights again encouraging crime as there is nobody monitoring the traffic. It is imperative that the public transport system be strengthened so that people are encouraged to use them. In order to develop a harmonious and safe environment for women as a society, the society needs to work towards it as a whole unit.
